Review of Caramel (2007) by Gianfranco G — 12 Nov 2010
As sweet, rich, hot, irresistible and bright as caramel. And, just like caramel, it will stick to your memory and heart. This little gem is a celebration of life and an open love letter to Beirut and to its lovely people which manages rather brilliantly to eschew the cliches of the portrait of a city torn by its recent history.
It's not surprising that many critics have remarked how this movie does justice to Beirut just like the best of Almodovar's movies have done justice to Madrid. I could not agree more. In a nutshell, a gorgeous movie about a gorgeous city.
Watch 'Caramel' and you'll want to see it again and again. Visit Beirut and you'll want to go back to it again and again.
