Review of Before Sunset (2004) by Tyler B — 07 Nov 2013
Before Sunset is a perfect example of an impeccable cinematic sequel. Set nine years after the events of Before Sunrise, Before Sunset sees Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) reunited once again, but not as one would have hoped.
The director, Richard Linklater masterfully recaptures the same naturalistic enchantment that it's predecessor had authenticated so beautifully. Both Delpy and Hawke deliver yet again exquisite performances that truly feel authentic and emotional.
This film establishes itself among the finest scripts of cinema, you simply forget you're watching a film, the lines are delivered in such a way that feel genuine yet improvised. Before Sunset is a masterful study of a bittersweet romance that follows two beautifully composed characters on a journey of one evening before the sunset.
5/5.
