Review of Age of the Dragons (2011) by Alex M — 14 Mar 2011
As a premise, a modern retelling of Melville's classic involving dragons in place of the infamous White whale wouldn't at first glance appear such a bad idea. However, intersperse the 18th century dialogue lifted directly from the novel with an averagely written 21st century script and what you get is laughable. Asking vinnie jones to deliver a shakespearean-esque soliloquy only compounds the matter.
This however isn't the worst thing. The 'vessel' used by the hunters throughout the film can only be described as a large armoured caravan. Everytime this machine came into view, I couldn't help but laugh.
About the only thing going for this film is the fairly well put together CGI of the dragons and even that is average.
Mr Melville, I would like to apologise on behalf everyone.
He would be spinning in his grave.
