Review of A Touch of Zen (1970) by Daniel D — 02 Apr 2011
My favorite epic. Over three hours of martial arts philosophy, ground-breaking action, and Buddhist pontification. If anyone ever said that they don't like martial arts films, I'd force this on them.
It is as poetic and beautiful as any great drama from any director, and as exciting as any great action film. And, what's more, it is poetic and emotionally charged. It's the Once Upon a Time in the West and 2001 of the wuxia pian.
