Review of A Better Place (1997) by David Ray G — 16 Apr 2010
I found this movie absolutely terrific. I'm not sure I can pinpoint what it is about it - from the cinematography to the use of sound/music and the truly amazing script that could be a different twist of the one of Naked and the simplistic and yet so realistic performances to the ironic ending - it's all just so right into place. I have no negative feedback for this movie, even though I wish some elements about it could have been different because at times it borders with self-indulgence.
Quite terrific overall. A movie not many people know that delves into the strangest folds of the human inclination towards senseless violence. The protagonist could have been easily named Alex instead of Ryan (see A Clockwork Orange).
