Review of Werckmeister Harmonies (2001) by Randall T — 19 Oct 2009
At first glance, Bela Tarr is like the reincarnation of Tarkovsky. But, as much of a feat as that is, that would be selling him short. There are not enough hours in the day for me to elucidate my feelings about this film -- I will keep it short and say that it belongs in that exclusive category of films that totally defy what you thought films could and should conceivably do.
Also has one of the greatest opening scenes in the history of cinema.
