Review of Tomboy (2011) by David Ray G — 20 Oct 2011
I watched this movie (which is French, a language I don't know) with Italian subtitles (a language I don't really know either) and I was reading off the English script I had in hand. What a complicated thing this movie-watching is!
In any case, I just live for movies like this. Simple, real, frail and human, breathing Life itself with each minute that goes by. I was once reading about the differences between the terms movie and film and this is a FILM. I laughed, I cared, I felt my heart aching. Beautiful and simplistic film-making, something we don't see much of today.
My only complaint is that it doesn't answer (not for me anyway) some really big questions that I had while watching it - the ending just left me wondering. But other than that - great. Pure greatness.
