Review of The Flamingo Kid (1984) by Sophie B — 04 Jun 2007
This is an overlooked gem of a flick. Packaged.promoted as a teen sex comedy, it really isn't at all. This is Gary Marshall's Neil Simonesque craftilly made drama about maturity, family and priorities.
Great story, feels like derived from a play (not sure)... quality writing and acting especially fom Richard Crenna and Hector Elizondo. I wasn;t alive in the early sixties but this film almost makes me nostalgic for that time.
Matt Dillon is actually likable character for once, which is a bonus.
