Review of The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros (2005) by Andrew C — 17 Oct 2007
A touching movie that addresses subjects not dealt with in many others, primarily a 12 year old's developing love for an adult, and the consequent conflict that arises when that adult starts to harm the 12 year old's family.
For me the most remarkable thing was that the 12 year old, Maxi's, homosexuality is entirely incidental to the core plot yet is a big part of the movie. It's just that his friends, family, neighbours and everyone else demonstrate a total acceptance of it and even embrace it.
Now that realy is refreshing, even groundbreaking.
