Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Jake L — 09 May 2018
The first epic story in film history!
It's not racist: this movie doesn't claim to be true and says it wants to challenge the norm. It uses history as a backdrop, but the rest is entirely fictional for the right reasons. Heroic protagonists, villainous antagonists, peace restored and the battles of a lifetime.
This movie reminds us all what a good story is: film, radio, novel, television, play or opera. And for that, it remains a grand experience even a century later.
