Review of Taxi Driver (1976) by Cigarill — 19 Jun 2018
You talkin'o me? You talking to me? You're talking to me? Taxi Driver is a genius masterpiece, and the acting is among the best I've ever seen. Travis Bickle is a taxi driver, but also a sociopath who fakes emotions in order to fit in.
His efforts aren't enough however, and he needs to come up with something to impress the world. The film itself isn't impressive on paper, but De Niro's superb acting is simply so utterly impressive that it makes the film impressive.
In fact, it's hard to pick an actor who doesn't do a good job in this movie, even Martin Scorsese himself makes a fairly impressive minor yet iconic performance as a mentally unstable woman beater. Overall, while it could have been slow, the character is interesting enough to spend nearly three hours learning about.
