Review of Shotgun Stories (2007) by Ben G — 14 Jun 2013
It feels as if Nichols loosely adapted a play by Shakespeare. However, he didn't. Rather he captured the entire essence of Shakespeare and the art of tragedy as a whole and formed into a masterpiece so attuned to detail and so emotionally wrought, that any flaws are buried and buried deep.
Nichols clearly values families and familial bonds above all things, and in Shotgun Stories, he brilliantly weaves a simple universal tale into a haunting Southern Gothic drama that takes into account all brilliant classical theater and spits it out into something entirely separate and entirely brilliant in its own right.
