Review of Shaurya (2008) by Arin D — 26 Jun 2008
Reasonable Indian remake of the Jack Nicholson/Tom Cruise film "A Few Good Men". Leaving aside issues of comparison between the films, the Indianization of the plot is effective. Instead of the more common jingoistic treatment of the Kashmir conflict in Bollywood, this film touches on human rights abuses and the Army's response to cases of soldiers shooting other soldiers (a real factor with the long deployed Indian Army in the Kashmir Valley).
The film does so in a fairly balanced and unsanctimonious way. That itself is a step forward in Indian cinema.
