Review of Savages (2006) by Will H — 28 Dec 2008
A delightfully biting dark comedy about family and death. This movie excellently displays one of the fundamental ironies of having a family- even though you may be totally feel mismatched with your relatives, you are bound by blood and thus care for each other. Laura Linney delightfully plays a neurotic sister who, at 39, still doesn't know where her life is going. she's a perfect foil to philip seymour hoffman's sucessful but gloomy older brother character. Every time Philip talks to someone it seems as if he's being greatly inconvienced.
There's neuroticism abounds, alot of it self inflicted all very amusing in a self depricating sort of way. I felt the ending sort of copped out, but that's a minor quibble.
