Review of Satantango (1994) by Allan K — 19 Aug 2007
I am a big Bela Tarr fan, and this seven and a half hour magnum opus is simply breathtaking in its luscious black and white images. It pulls you in right from the beginning. Some scenes were unecessarily long, I felt, unlike say, Lav Diaz's Evolution Of A Filipino Family where every scene needs to be of its length.
But scenes like the murder of the cat and the extra-sized doctor spying on his neighbour are just amazing to see.
