Review of Sakuran (2006) by Gabriel H — 03 Sep 2008
Moulin Rouge! in Japanese. A vivid insight into the mizu-shobai of a Yoshiwara courtesan with flowery dreams. The imagery is over-the-top picturesque because the director started off as a pro photographer.
Beats Hero & Color Blossoms any day, and only narrowly loses out to Rouge! coz of the lack of singing. But the falling sakura is a sight to behold.
