Review of Le Havre (2011) by Ola S — 30 Dec 2011
You always recognize a Kaurismäki film. You only have to watch it for a second or two. How many directors like that are there? Hardly ten.
Kaurismäki loves shabby environments. Ugly railway stations, ugly ports, ugly homes and ugly people and he delivers his love to his audiences. Here we meet the shoe polisher, bullied by many, who takes care of those who are below even him socially; the refugees.
We follow a miracle here, which is even more truthworthy, since it takes place among the non-glamorous. And afterwards you can for a while watch the world through Kaurismäki's eyes, which is good for you.
