Review of Le Havre (2011) by Dan D — 28 Aug 2012
A near-masterpiece. This is the type of film that I imagine Wes Anderson would make if he were a little more mature and slightly less hipster. It is a sweet story that is at times very funny and maybe even poignant.
Kaurismaki has crafted a wonderful film and I loved every second of it. For some reason though, it feels slightly insubstantial. It's a great film and very touching, but it doesn't have that profound effect on you as the greatest films do.
