Review of Jindabyne (2006) by Florence H — 03 Jun 2007
Biting of a hell of a lot to chew, but potent all the same. The film expands on Raymond Carver's short story "So much water close to home", in an ambitiously unflinching look at effects of isolation, racial segregation, the profound difference in the way women and men see things and approach emtional issues, as well as scutinising the moral basis of passing jugement.
I saw this in Sydney over a year ago and still remember it vividly, esp. the mesmeric mourning ritual towards the end. Often uncomfortable but important viewing to my mind.
