Review of Irma la Douce (1963) by Henri L — 16 Mar 2008
Sweet, innocent and at times very, very funny musical adaptation from Billy Wilder. This movie has some kick-ass art direction and shows some great visual skills from the director photographer. Lemmon is quite funny as an ex-policeman falling in love with a prostitute, but the movie belongs to Shirley MacLaine who is wonderful and full of both passion, humanity and sensuality.
It might be a bit overkill to let this movie run almost two and a half hour but and it could have been a comedy masterpiece if it had been half an hour shorter. This is still a hilarious ride though that'll give you a great time and make you feel real good.
