Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Roberto R — 24 Feb 2008
Great, lushly filmed noir based around the career and death of George Reeves, Really a mood piece set at the end of the studio system, the film offers no clear cut conclusions to Reeve's death but has a lot to say about the corrosive effects of fame and it's pursuit as the tv age was beginning it's eclipse of the studios.
Great performances from all, especially Diane Lane and Mr fixit Bob Hoskins. I've watched it 3 times and have grown to really like it. Also has a fine moody noir score, ala Chinatown and Bodyheat.
