Review of Hello Herman (2012) by Jamie B — 25 Mar 2013
Michelle Danner's latest film, "Hello Herman," is a powerful and pervasive film about the effects of an unthinkable atrocity on the general populace as well as the shooter himself. It tells the tale of Herman Howards (Garrett Backstrom), a sixteen year old who snaps and commits a horrifying crime.
He contacts his favorite blogger, Lax Morales (Norman Reedus), and offers to tell his side of the story. Through a series of interviews cleverly shown alongside a rising call for violent retaliation by a political pundit and a senator, "Hello Herman" examines how evil acts can occur and their causes, as well as the continued desensitization to violence that permeates current American society.
