Review of Hellboy (2019) by Intrippyentropy — 03 Jul 2019
I love the idea of Hellboy. I love monsters and Gore. But I need a story. I need a little bit of logic most of all, I need to understand and care about the characters to some degree. This is the story of Hellboy and his father running a sort of Men in Black assassinate all monster Enterprise.
There are lots of special effects. Back-to-back-to-back. Lots of monsters. Unfortunately, a lot of them look like Muppets. Which is not scary. It's also not funny. There's lots of decapitations, stabbings and Gore.
But none of it is very interesting. There's a scene between Hellboy and his father where he talks about wanting humans and monsters to live together in peace. It's probably the most real moment in the movie.
And it lasts about 30 seconds. Is that had been the focal point of the movie, nobody would notice Milla Jovovich and her subpar acting or the bad dialogue.
