Review of Equus (1977) by Jaime M — 27 Dec 2010
The central conceit is too hard to swallow for me... not that its not credible that a young lad could build a sexual and religious link to a horse but that a psychologist could see this as some kind of trait of a passionate spirit that should be preserved.
Seriously if your stripping naked and getting off whilst riding a horse, masturbating to an image of a horse whilst wearing a girdle or ultimately blinding a horses with a scythe then youâ(TM)re in need of a change of hobby.
Richard Burton is a fantastic actor and his performance is mesmerising but his characters doubt about whether its ethical and moral to rid the boy of his equestrian fetish is just as bizarre as the boys behaviour.
