Review of Dream Home (2010) by Al M — 20 Apr 2012
An artsy, brutal, Hong Kong slasher film, Dream Home epitomizes the possibilities of horror/transgressive cinema. In a city where real estate has reached ungodly prices, one young woman decides that she will get a condo (or its Hong Kong equivalent) regardless of the consequences.
Hence, she adopts a truly Machiavellian perspective on the absurd situation and starts to kill off anyone that stands in her way. Extremely twisted, Dream Home uses it completely brutal imagery to comment upon the way that financial institutions rape, torture, and kill the common person.
While its metaphorical usage of gory imagery may not appeal to everyone, Dream Home is a truly intelligent piece of economic criticism that vilifies the 1% for the exploitation of the masses.
