Review of Céline and Julie Go Boating (1974) by Susan G — 20 Apr 2008
Classic 1974 (not 1947!) French film from Jacques Rivette follows the lives of two improbable friends, the plucky librarian Julie and the irresistible kook, Celine. Intrigue, swapped lives, a bit of Alice-in-Wonderland magic, and terrific performances from Juliet Berto and Dominique Labourier.
An inventive and twisting narrative keeps you guessing all through this very long but engaging and fun art film. A must see!
