Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Caleb M — 07 Oct 2011
Brighton Rock isn't a stand-out as a drama or a film-noir, but it fulfilled my desire for dark shadows and equally dark characters. The style here just flows out of the frame. Although it loses track a few times along the way, both Helen Mirren and Sam Riley manage to bring some drama back in even when the audience doesn't quite understand the script. Though the screenplay and direction falters occasionally, and the film is more style than substance, Brighton Rock is just the type of dark neo-noir I needed.
Also: Andy Serkis. A win for any film he's in.
