Review of Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion (2007) by Jonathan G — 28 Jun 2012
An indie attempt in stand-up comedy (pre-Hangover movies), Zach Galifianakis seemed to run out of material early in the performance. There were maybe a few moments in the hour special that were actually funny, but most of the time he seemed to be caring more about the angle the cameras were on him or audience members that he could easily pick-on.
Pretending he was drunk at times or playing the piano with intercuts to his 'brother' back home in N.C. almost seemed more of a prolonging distraction than helpful at keeping the momentum going.
He's a North Carolina boy, so I can't pick on him too much, but you can do a lot better if you're looking for a stand-up comedian performance.
