Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Clare N — 25 Sep 2008
An absolute gem of a film by the great Italian neorealist, Vittorio De Sica, Umberto D tells the story of a lonely old man in post-WW2 Italy who is struggling to make ends meet. His only companion is his dog Flike, whom he must consider before making a drastic decision.
Umberto D fills one with both joy and sadness and though slow moving, is incredibly touching.
