Review of The Homesman (2014) by Mark C — 05 Dec 2014
This is a fairly low key western and I think a lot of the Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone went because it is a Tommy Lee Jones project. It is his second film and it's a good one, with some defects.
Hillary Swank is really good if a trifle hard to figure at times. She plays a woman on her on the plains of the US in the 1850s. The stark scenery adds a lot to the film. Tommy Lee is a sort of stereotype western drifter com outlaw, but as always he is terrific to watch.
The three women they are transporting back to 'civilization' have few lines but manage to dominate the film at various points. All in all a good, if off beat, western and one you should try to see.
It's in limited release at the moment however so you'll have to look for it.
