This is a story about a glamourous, otherwordly, slightly unhinged seductress who moves from Hong Kong to suburban Australia in the 1970s to marry a man she barely knows. Her children suffer silently as she moves from one disastrous situation to another.
The actor who plays her son nearly outshines Joan Chen with his soulful, suffering eyes. But it is ultimately Joan's story, told in flashback, which make you empathise with her tortured soul.
