Review of The Home Song Stories (2007) by Anthony D — 02 Sep 2008
It's hard to criticise a film where the characters' actions changed rapidly and confused me, and the mother's character remains confusing and unsympathetic, when it's based on the real life memories of someone who was a child at the time.
In all other respects, it's impeccably made, with fine direction, performances, and atmosphere. But I still found it hard to like and understand the mother, and I'm not sure whether it's a fair to call it a flaw.
Then again, the son seems to rapidly change from a sympathising character to an annoyed little sod pretty quickly, so I don't know.
