Completely gripping viewing.. Just being aware of the Treaty of Versailles is enough to understand the political machinations of the main characters.

Beautifully underplayed, with a score that has its own personality, the film is mesmerising -and I need to watch again to discover it with the perspective of hindsight. So many nuances.

Strong, intelligent performances that have left me pondering on the film for hours.

Whilst I understand the impact of the result, I had a certain empathy for the boy who would be leader.

There was a stunned silence in the (packed) cinema at the end and then an eruption of discussion. Always a good sign.
