Review of Tears of the Black Tiger (2000) by Sunder S — 18 Dec 2007
In "Tears of the Black Tiger," Dom(Chartchai Ngamsan) promises to meet Rumposey(Stella Malucchi), so they can elope, but he cannot make it due to his job as a crack shot where he and his partner, Mahesuan(Supakorn Kitsuwon), kill a snitch at the same time for their boss, the outlaw Fai(Sombat Metanee). Distraught, she submits to being engaged to Kumjorn(Arawat Ruangvuth), a police captain who may solve everybody's problems when he volunteers to lead an assault on Fai's camp..
"Tears of the Black Tiger" is a combination of a Sam Peckinpah western and Douglas Sirk melodrama that is decent enough but not a resounding success either. Thankfully, this is not a parody(the melodrama is 100% pure) but it also plays it too safe with an unoriginal story.(And the oldest trick in the book makes an appearance.) If you are going to make a movie like this, then you have to be as wild as your imagination allows..
