I don't really like the play either. They've taken Fellini's heartbreaking drama and made a fluffy musical out of it. and NO, Cabiria's pilgrimage to a Catholic Church where she cries over her sins is not the same as Charity going to a funky hippie preacher love-in.
Shirley is usually so wonderful but here she seems to desperate for us to like her.
Plus it's, like, forty hours long.
