Review of Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002) by Jack F — 06 Jul 2007
A great piece of music history. Motown was such an innovative time for music, but so few people truly appreciate the efforts of people like Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson. The Funk Brothers are one of the most natural looking bands I've ever seen in that they play as if God created them for that sole purpose and nothing else.
All the live performances in the film are spot on, with special props going to Ben Harper. Chaka Khan kind of pisses me off, but there is no such thing as a "perfect film". This is another required viewing for anyone interested in music.
