Review of Son of Saul (2015) by Knox M — 29 Jul 2016
This great debut feature film from Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes won him a ton of awards, including the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. This is probably the first time I've seen a movie that uses the blur effect throughout, which is great in this movie for two reasons - it maintains focus on the protagonist's face and highlights Geza Rohrig's great acting, and it serves to partially obfuscate the gruesome tragedy that is happening around him.
I also loved the thought-provoking ending.
