Review of Sita Sings the Blues (2008) by Jennifer C — 25 May 2008
Viewed 5/26. A vibrant curiosity from (former?) alt-cartoonist Nina Paley, deviating broadly from her usual fare to mash up ancient Hindu myth, 1920s jazz, and an autobiographical breakup story, finding unique correlations between the three.
Slightly wooden or precious at times, but it feels very inventive visually, and more often than not it hits the right comic notes (especially in the interplay between the bickering, uncertain, digressing narrators).
