Review of Side Street (1950) by Douglas P — 17 Jan 2008
Tight urban noir thanks to Anthony Mann's slack hold on the narrative, as well as his incongruous eye that shoots NYC like a unending maze of concrete. Farley Granger truly is a sympathetic simp as he steals some loot from a crooked lawyer.
The car chase finale packs some punch, as does the last shot (which would have been more effective w/o the narration).
