Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Emilie B — 23 Sep 2007
Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of the most talented actresses ever, and she proves it yet again in this depressing movie. Portraying a woman released from jail due to drugs, she tries to regain her status in society and reconnect with her daughter.
Never a dull moment with Maggie and her brother's wife, who clearly makes it evident that "Sherry" is nothing more than trash. It's heartbreaking as reality takes a powerful foot forward on this woman.
I didn't understand why she was extremely sexual, no evidence that Sherry was deemed that way. She attempts to have a stable relationship, a career, but is turned down by her family members for attempting to see her daughter.
Shunned away, she still continues to fight strong for her daughter to know the harsh trouble that her mother is known for creating. Incredible.
