Review of Redwall: The Movie (2000) by David O — 02 Jan 2008
After reading Redwall 12 years ago, I had dreamed of a movie that would put this story on the screen and bring the words to life. Alas this has not yet occured.
This film is an utter embarassment to the novel. Within the first four minutes I was already overwhealmed by things that had nothing to do with the book, errors, and characters saying things that they couldn't know in context of the book. I can understand that some changes are always necessary in adapting a book to film, but this is a very poor attempt. This should have been done the way Watership Down was adapted.
The more we watch the more painful this is to watch. I keep making jokes about ways they could wreck the story and then they bloody well go and do it. This thing is unbearable to watch if you had and fondness at all for the book.
