Review of Red Sands (2009) by Simon W — 14 May 2009
This movie is a low budget horror movie, but it is made very competently. The director did a good job of establishing the mood, and the graniness of the film only serves the atmosphere. The desert locations are expertly filmed, and the story is very tight and suspenseful.
The acting is what you'd expect, more functional than anything else. JK Simmons is the best actor in the movie but is only in two scenes, I guess to lend some credence. The ending, though, is ultimately unfulfilling.
It seems like an abrupt wrapup that spoils what could have been a cult classic.
