Review of Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman (2005) by Bridget H — 25 Aug 2008
A simple but compelling story about England's last hangman. Spall is excellent as Pierrepoint, portraying the somewhat emotion-free state required of the man to reach the pinnacle of a gruesome and haunting job before unwillingly being drawn into greater reflection on what he does.
The film captures a snippet of time in the life of a man that seemingly had a huge impact on Britains penal code. Although so much more could have been included, the content is enough to make this a very worthwhile watch.
