Review of Man Push Cart (2006) by Crystal R — 23 May 2009
I was tempted to watch this directorial debut film by Ramin Bahrani after catching his second feature, Chop Shop a couple of months ago...I can sense the similar undertones of neorealism in both films, though I think Chop Shop had a better story.
..Still, this film was well shot, with a clear focus on the main character only, with the peripheral characters adding to or relieving his burdens along the way...It was almost like watching a play in fact!.
.A bit slow moving at times it may be, but certainly a film that beautifully displays non-verbal signs and feelings...I must admit though that the director has to be more adventurous in his future films, especially with filming techniques and stories - too many closeup shots, and another story about immigrants in the US.
..but I'm definitely gonna catch his third film, Goodbye Solo when it is released in my local theatre...
