Although many of the movies plot points could be seem coming from a long ways off, it still managed to have some meaning. Coming from the Midwest, it's hard to imagine people wanting to live in a big city so badly that they would put up with such conditions.
This is also not an uplifting film, at the end it felt like I had been suckerpunched in the soul.
