Review of Maelström (2000) by Don V — 21 Sep 2007
I saw this movie when it premiered in Montreal. It's dark, sensual and almost disturbing. Marie-Josée Croze's performance is astounding. Not only is she beautiful, she is mesmerizing to watch.
The cinematography is exceptional. The colors are vivid and rich and sometimes cold. The many emotions in the film are accurately translated. The story itself is highly original and multi-layered. I've seen it several times.
It makes me proud that it's a Canadian (Quebecois) film.
