Review of Maelström (2000) by Ryan T — 23 Jan 2009
Beautiful and amazingly both surreal and so human at the same time. Deftly calculated seeming discontinuity later reveals itself to help tell the story in such a way that the viewer somewhat has some in to the inner workings of the characters involved.
I still can't get over the humanness, the utter sensuality between Bibiane and Evian that so transcends the fact that its a het pairing. Really great choice of rather odd old pop music along with the mood-setting incidentals, as well as the few portions of classical selections, all truly heightening the experience in such a focused manner, more so than many a movie I've seen.
Highly recommended.
