Review of M (1931) by Dominic D — 15 Apr 2008
Peter Lorre is one of my favorite actors, and this is his best work. All of it is thanks to Fritz Lang, who made a classic mostly out of images. The storytelling technique also became classic, and is the basis for a lot of "modern" crime movies.
The story is about a child killer (Lorre) who's being hunted by what quickly turns into an unruly mob. In the best scene of the movie, Lorre pleads his case, saying he can't control his impulses. The crowd, not controlling theirs, get their revenge. A very powerful movie, with a powerful message which was delivered during the rise of Nazi Germany.
