Review of Listen to Britain (1942) by Matt M — 27 May 2013
A depiction of life in Britain during the second World war and the privation that ordinary people had to deal with due to war. Jennings, a master of British propaganda of the second world war, pains another picture of patriotism and heroism of the British people which must have spurred the young men to fight for their country.
The documentary is pretty effective and even very ambitious for its time as it turns down conventionalities that had formed around the documentary genre, particularly with its lack of voice of god narration.
