Review of Le Havre (2011) by Yanli L — 11 Oct 2011
An old Frenchman meets and shelters a young illegal immigrant in Kaurismäki's movie Le Havre. The tad serious and controversial theme is broken into its elements using a light, comedic style. There are strokes of satire and dark humour. Still, much more than a movie tool, humour is presented as integral to how the people living in the port city of Le Havre live and perceive life.
Not a big follower of Aki Kaurismäki, I was happy to find Le Havre a wildly funny, humane and lifting experience. It's a movie built of solace.
